Holograph letters written by J. Mauran, captain on the bark Oxford, while on a voyage
carrying 49ers to California. The letters related sailing conditions and details of
shipboard life and also mention other ships encountered en route. The letter dated 25
Jan. 1849 is written at the captain's request by P.B. Mauran.
