Records (1957-1984) documenting the La Jolla Civic-University Orchestra and Chorus Association, consisting largely of correspondence
of the organization's officers, subject files and various publicity materials for events. Materials include committee records,
board minutes, membership lists, printed programs, posters, and photographs. The materials are arranged in three series:
1) CORRESPONDENCE, 2) SUBJECT FILES and 3) PUBLICATIONS.
Background
The La Jolla Civic Orchestra was founded in November 1954 by Peter Nicoloff, a violinist with a distinguished career in Europe.
The La Jolla Civic Orchestra Association was incorporated in California on December 4, 1957. The Orchestra's mission was
to advance public knowledge and appreciation of music. Thirteen years later, in 1967, the Orchestra added a permanent chorus
and became the La Jolla Civic Orchestra and Chorus Association.
