Biography

Juliet Dixon was born on October 19, 1894 in Bristol, Virginia. She grew up in Hanford, California, and received her bachelor of arts degree from Pomona College. She later did some graduate study at the University of California (Berkeley) and at Pomona College before graduating from the School of Hygiene at Wellesley College. Dixon did her student teaching in public schools in Boston until 1919. Once her studies ended, she accepted a job at Fresno State Normal School (now California State University, Fresno) to teach physical education and physiology. In 1922, she became Head of the Department of Physical Education for Women. While at Fresno she staged many performances both at the college and at its Sierra Summer School at Huntington Lake.
