Dr. Jesse W. Barnes (1885-1949), practised medicine in Stockton, Calif. (1917-1949). He
received his M.D. degree from Cooper Medical College in San Francisco in 1912. Following
a brief period in Gustine, Calif. (1912-1916), Barnes located in Stockton where he
practiced internal medicine for the remainder of his life.
This collection consists of some correspondence and an unpublished 345 page typescript of
a history of medical practice in San Joaquin County (1847-c1947). The history contains
photographs and biographies of practitioners and buildings. Barnes apparently compiled
and wrote "Doctors" over many years, probably beginning during the 1930s.
