Background
Begun in 1922, the Pacific Coast Association of College Registrars and Admissions Officers, regional division of the American Association, seeks uniformity of procedures among member institutions for transfers of credits and grading standards. PACRAO represents approximately four hundred accredited independent colleges in Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington, Guam, Alberta and British Columbia. Ellen L. Deering, for many years Registrar at the University of the Pacific, Stockton (Calif.), held various offices in PACRAO and was instrumental in the development their archives and in its placement at Holt Atherton Special Collections (1972).
