Description
The papers of Douglas H. Campbell include correspondence, records of the Biology Department, class rolls, bibliography of Campbell's works, and printed works of Campbell's.
Background
Dr. Campbell was born in Detroit, Michigan on December 16, 1859. He graduated from the University of Michigan in 1882, and received his Ph.D. and LL.D. degrees there. Dr. Campbell taught at Indiana University for several years. He came to Stanford when the University opened in 1891. As a professor of Botany, he has long been recognized as a leading authority on the structure and reproduction of mosses and ferns. He is the author of many books on plant life as well as of monographs and other scientific papers. He died on February 24, 1953 in Palo Alto.
