Consists of account ledgers, cash books, copybooks, invoices, and other financial and business records of Calif. quarry companies,
including San Pablo Quarry Co., Blake and Bilger Company, Blake Brothers Company, and San Francisco Quarries Company. Includes
some records of companies concerned with building materials, water, and land, including a cash book for H. Peterson & Company,
minutes for the Board of Directors of Venice Island Company, a title abstract for La Jota Rancho (Napa County), stock certificates
for Interior Land company (Kern County), and by-laws of San Pablo Water Company.
Blake was a businessman and partner in California quarrying companies and the son of gold rush pioneer Charles T. Blake. In
1899, he became president of his father's company, Oakland Paving Company. Blake and Bilger was a quarrying company which
grew out of the Oakland Paving Company; it later became Blake Brothers Company as a result of a buyout and merger by the Blake
family in 1914. San Pablo Quarry Company was the first holding company for Blake Brothers Company.
