Description
Assembled over a forty-year period by
photography curator Joseph Armstrong Baird, Jr. (1922-1992) this collection
contains circa 1663 photographs of architecture and urban views in Europe,
Asia, the Middle East, and Mexico and Hawaii in North America. Most of the
photographs date from the late nineteenth-century, although a few are early
twentieth-century prints.
Background
Joseph Armstrong Baird, Jr. was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in
1922. He received his B.A. from Oberlin College in 1945 and an M.A. and a Ph.D
from Harvard University in 1947 and 1951. His area of expertise was in
Californian and Mexican art and architecture.
