This article formed the basis of Cross's lecture during a Stanford Historical Society tour of Yosemite in May 1981. It relates
the history of David Starr Jordan's interest in Yosemite, his friendship with David A. Curry, the history of Camp Curry, and
the roles of Donald B. Tresidder (Stanford Univ. President 1943-48) and his wife Mary Curry Tresidder at Yosemite.
Cross earned his B.A. (1947) and M.A. (1948) in history at Stanford University; for many years he was the manager of the Curry
Company, operator of facilities at Yosemite National Park.
