    Biographical/Historical Sketch

The Stanford Volunteer Network was founded in 1983 to promote public service activities among Stanford faculty, staff, and students. The Network became one of the founding student groups of the Public Service Center, officially established by the University in 1985. In 1989, the Haas family of San Francisco donated $5 million to Stanford University to endow the Public Service Center, which was renamed the Haas Center for Public Service.
