Item No. 1.  Captain Loring N. Shaw posing as a gold miner daguerreotype approximately 1851

Physical Description: 1 photograph. Cased half plate daguerreotype inside brass mat. Gold in pan has been hand colored with gold paint. Case is wood covered with tooled leather. 4.25 x 5.5 in. (4.75 x 6 in. case)

Physical Description: 1 photograph. Black-and-white gelatin silver print (developing-out paper) mounted on grey board. 4-5/8 x 3-5/8 in. (6 x 5 in. mount)

Scope and Content Note

Capt. Shaw and his wife are separated by a couple of feet and are casually posed in a yard in front of a house. The image is slightly blurred and a strand of hair is blocking the exposure in the lower left corner.
