Background

Scope and content:

The collection contains 102 open reel tapes produced by radio station KCSB, with live coverage of events, other broadcasts, calls, and interviews. The tapes are arranged chronologically by KCSB-assigned numbers, which generally refer to dates of the taping, e.g. KCSB.1.17.69 refers to a tape that was recorded on Jan. 17, 1969. Tape descriptions generally are taken from the tapes or tape boxes.

KCSB-FM 91.9, a non-commercial radio station, was located in the UCSB Storke Communications Building during the time these tapes were made. Malcolm Gault-Williams was General Manager. At the time, KCSB was the area's only non-commercial radio station and had a stated programming commitment to community service broadcasting.

Left hand column Tape # refers to Special Collections numbers.
