Background

Scope and content:

This collection contains one box consisting of eleven photographs of images taken during the 1932 summer olympics held in Los Angeles; exhibit labels; two programs; and two maps. Images depict cyclists, the Los Angeles Coliseum, the start of a swimming event, a rowing event at Marine Stadium (Long Beach, CA.), a lacrosse event, a track and field event featuring the United States team, and other images. All photographs are reproductions courtesy of the Security Pacific National Bank Photograph Collection, Los Angeles Public Library. Also included in this collection is a photocopy of the official program, and an events/records program; as well as exhibit labels presumably used to accompany the photographs in this collection when used on display during the CSUDH archives exhibit created in 1984. Lastly, this collection contains two maps of Olympic events, including schedule and entrance fees.

Biographical / historical:

In 1984, Los Angeles hosted the Games of the XXIII Olympiad and the cycling events were held at the velodrome on the campus of CSU Dominguez Hills. To celebrate the games and the participation of CSUDH, the Department of Archives and Special Collections put together an exhibit of photographs and documents from the first time Los Angeles hosted the Olympic Games - the Games of the X Olympiad in 1932.
