Pearl Pauline Stamps attended Pomona College and received her Bachelor of Arts degree in 1924. In 1925, she received her
Master of Arts degree in History for the University of California, Berkeley. Her thesis committee chair was Herbert E. Bolton.
This master's thesis by Pearl Pauline Stamps traces the business and political career of Abel Stearns, portraying him as a
central figure in the annexation of Mexican California to America. Through the use of correspondence, interviews with Stearns'
descendents, and secondary sources, Stamps shows Stearns' importance in Los Angeles before and after the Mexican War. Copies
of the letters are dated 1861-1864 and include content on ranching, taxes, and real estate. Includes bibliographical references,
and an index.
