Administrative History
The Southeastern Arts, Media and Education (SAME) project, 1985-1996,
was a multidisciplinary Atlanta based gay and lesbian nonprofit arts
organization whose mission was to utilize arts for social change. During its
first ten years, 1985-1995, SAME produced over 70 plays, original film and
video works, including
Promise of Life, a documentary on people
living with AIDS, and published
Amethyst, a semi-annual journal of creative
writing and visual arts. SAME, along with
Southern Voice newspaper, co-produced the
Southeastern Lesbian and Gay Film Festival, which screened over 50 films in
1994, a major event for the Atlanta Gay and Lesbian community. SAME also
organized numerous visual arts exhibitions and an annual arts and crafts
festival.
Scope and Content of Collection
The records of the Southeastern Arts and Media Entertainment Project,
(SAME), 1985-1996, consist of administrative records, including an operational
