Colonel Sidney L. Huff was an aide to General MacArthur for fifteen years from 1936 to 1951, including the years of World War II, the occupation of Japan, and the Korean Conflict. The collection consists of military documents, correspondence, ephemera, photos, news clippings, two photo albums, and two large scrapbooks.

Scope and content:

The collection consists of correspondence, photographs, news clippings, and ephemera detailing Colonel Huff's military career, particularly his service as a member of General MacArthur's staff during World War II, the occupation of Japan, and the Korean Conflict. Of particular interest is a report on the Philippines campaign and the many photographs of General MacArthur during World War II and the allied occupation of Japan.

Biographical / historical:

Colonel Sidney L. Huff (1893-1962) was born in New York State. After retiring from a career in the US Navy from 1918 to 1936, Colonel Huff joined General Douglas MacArthur, military adviser to the Philippines, as his naval assistant in 1936. Upon the commencement of World War II, Colonel Huff was commissioned as a Lt. Colonel in the US Army and assigned as an aide-de-camp to General MacArthur. Colonel Huff saw active service with General MacArthur at Bataan, Corregidor, and throughout the entire Far East during World War II. He also served with General MacArthur during the occupation of Japan and during the Korean Conflict until MacArthur's dismissal in 1951. Colonel Huff retired from the US Army in 1955, and with Joe Alex Morris, wrote My fifteen years with General MacArthur (1964) describing his years of service with MacArthur from 1936 to 1951. He died in New York on Veteran's Day in 1962.
