Records of the Vice-Chancellor, Student Affairs (1962-2004) at the University of California, San Diego contain administrative
files related to student life, student committees and activities, facilities, and campus student services. The files also
document early campus activities and publications, including the
Trident Yearbook; the student newspapers
The Indicator,
Revelle Times,
Sandscript, and
The Triton Times; early religious activity on campus; lecture series; and public events programs. Files processed in 1987 and 2000 are arranged
alphabetically. Files processed from 2001 to 2011 are arranged in alphanumeric order. The accession processed in 2000 also
contains outgoing chronological correspondence files (1985-1990, 1993-1996) of the Vice-Chancellor of Student Affairs (Joseph
Watson).
Background
The Office of the Vice-Chancellor, Student Affairs functions to promote the enrollment, retention, academic advancement, and
graduation of students, while developing leadership, communication and interpersonal skills. It fosters communities, through
both college-based and campus-wide services and programs, that "promote the intellectual, social, physical, psychological,
and ethical development of students. Student Affairs collaborates with students, faculty, staff, and the community in preparing
students to achieve their academic and career aspirations while becoming active and constructive members of a diverse and
changing society."
