Biographical Information:

Abraham Nasatir was born in 1906 in Santa Ana, California. He entered UC Berkeley at the age of 14, and received his PhD in history at age 21. While studying at Berkeley he met his future wife, Ida Hirsch, an English student also attending the school.
After marrying in 1929, the couple moved to San Diego where Nasatir began a 50-year teaching career at San Diego State College. Focusing on his fields of Spanish border and Mississippi valley history, and Gold Rush history, Nasatir published 14 books and and numerous articles. He also served as vice-consul for Paraguay and Ecuador.
As an Orthodox Jew, he was a leader and educator of the Jewish community. Nasatir Hall on the SDSU campus is named for him.

Custodial History:

The materials in this collection were donated to the Jewish Historical Society of San Diego in 2005 by the estate of Ida Nasatir (JHSSD #2005.03.) It was transferred to the Library and Information Access December 21, 2010.

Conditions Governing Use:

The copyright interests in these materials have not been transferred to San Diego State University. Copyright resides with the creators of materials contained in the collection or their heirs. The nature of historical archival and manuscript collections is such that copyright status may be difficult or even impossible to determine.  Requests for permission to publish must be submitted to the Head of Special Collections, San Diego State University, Library and Information Access. Scope and Contents

The Abraham Nasatir Papers consist of correspondence, articles, written by or about Nasatir and his wife; photographs, newspaper clippings, materials from various Jewish institutions in San Diego, items about Nasatir Hall at SDSU, and materials on the destruction of their home and rescue of their papers.
The materials in this collection were donated to the Jewish Historical Society of San Diego in 2005 by the estate of Ida Nasatir (JHSSD #2005.03.) It was transferred to the Library and Information Access December 21, 2010.
