Description
Correspondence, business records, printed matter, photographs, and maps, relating to American business investment in Mexico.
Background
Bion S. Gregory was a lawyer, businessman and land agent. Born in 1873 in Muscatine, Iowa, he died 1938 in San Francisco, California. Admitted to the practice law in 1891 by the California Supreme Court, he graduated 1893 from Hastings College of the Law in San Francisco. Gregory operated the Bion S. Gregory Company in Honolulu, Hawaii, dealing in construction and household supplies from 1897 to 1904. From 1905 to 1915 Gregory served as a land agent and landowner in the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, in the states of Oaxaca and Chiapas, Mexico. Returning returning to San Francisco,he was known as an authority on mechanics liens and other legal forms. Gregory passed away in 1939.
