Historical Note
The Combined Arts and Education Council of San Diego County (COMBO) was organized in the fall of 1964 for the purpose of combining
fund-raising efforts in the San Diego area to support the arts in San Diego. A 100-member board selected Robert O. Peterson,
President of Foodmaker, Inc. as their first president. Under the leadership of Victor H. Krulak, President of the Copy News
Service, COMBO expanded its fund raising efforts in a door-to-door march and initiated a direct solicitation of the business
community. Because of its position as the major fund-raising organization for the arts in San Diego, COMBO maintained a great
influence over the cultural and artistic development of San Diego.
