Gift of Lloyd McGovern, 2000
Thomas K. Code earned his A.B. in geology at Stanford University in May 1896; he was quarterback of the first football team (1892) and played on the 1893 and 1895 teams as well.
Papers include a scrapbook of newspaper articles about the Stanford football team ca. 1892-1895, with a few about Code's earlier football experience in San Francisco; photographs of Code, 1896 and 1910, of the 1895 Stanford football team, and of the class of 1895 wearing their Plug Uglies (the hat of the junior class); a letter to Code from H. S. Hicks, 1931; and Code's obituary, ca. 1960. Collection also includes two pamphlets by A. R. E. Wyant, "Dividends of the Depression - An Optimistic Philosophy of Life" and "Christy Mathewson - Great Athlete, Soldier and Christian Gentleman" and his letter to the sports editor of the Palo Alto Daily News, 1957.
