Italian-born painter and sculptor. Circa 200 letters received from galleries, museums, and artists, four manuscripts, and
circa 20 printed items primarily relate to the Surrealist retrospective "Le Surrealisme en 1947"
curated by Andrei Breton and Marcel Duchamp and held at the Galerie Maeght in
Paris, July-August 1947.
Background
The Italian-born painter and sculptor, Enrico Donati, became an
American citizen in 1945. During the 1930s and 1940s he was associated with
Surrealists in Paris and New York, contributing to the Surrealist retrospective
in Paris in 1947.
