An album compiled by Andrew T. Cassell Sr. documenting the history of the Cassell family as far back as the 17th century. It contains original handwritten letters dating from approximately 1840-1951, handwritten transcriptions, and typed letters as well as photographs and official documents (such as the marriage license of John F. Cassell and Anna O. Little). The album also contains records of the Toy family. Cassell is alternatively spelled as Casal, Cassal, Cassel and Capell.
John F. Cassell was born in Baltimore, Maryland in 1837. He worked as a miner and co-owned the Golden Chariot at Tuscarora. He owned Goleta ranch in Santa Barbara County with Stephen Roberts. He died in San Francisco on July 1, 1893.
