Historical Note
Established in 1951 with the objective of assisting San Diego area children with developmental disabilities, the Association
broadened its scope in 1970 to promote the welfare of disabled adult residents, as well. The ARC is principally concerned
with establishing facilities in the public education system devoted to the teaching and training of the developmentally disabled.
Scope and Contents
The collection documents higher education, special education, government and politics within the city and county of San Diego,
as well as the state of California, health services, recreation, and social service agencies. It consists of meeting minutes
from the ARC's executive board and of city and county councils, correspondence, financial and membership records, committee
reports, public relations files, and legislative materials.
