Series II.C. Microfilmed and microfiched press clippings, 1972-1990

Physical Description: 1.1 linear feet (5 rolls of microfilm and 2 sets of microfiche in three small boxes)

Scope and Content Note

The following list reproduces inventories and indices of the microform press clippings of the J. Paul Getty Trust, 1972-1990. Apparently created when the paper clippings were filmed, the original copy of the microfilm inventory notes that the clippings were "filmed in the exact order in which they were" filed at the "Trust offices in Century City" and that there was no attempt to alter the original organization. Subject headings and subheadings included in the inventory were copied directly from file folders in which the original materials were housed.
The indices to the clippings on microfiche were created by the Department of Public Affairs, apparently for their own internal use. Two sets of microfiche were originally made: one was given to the Archives, the second was kept by the originating department. Documentation accompanying the indices explains that subject headings followed by a parenthetical number are continued on more than one microfiche.

Arrangement

The press clippings have been divided into three categories, each of which contains a mixture of integrated headings by program, department, and/or subject.

Series II.D. Magazine clippings, 1967, 1975, 1978, 1984-2007, undated

Physical Description: 3.0 linear feet (3 boxes)

Scope and Content Note

These press clippings reflect the publicity and coverage the J. Paul Getty Trust received in magazines, 1975, 1978, 1984-2007. It is unclear where this collection of magazine clippings originated, but it is maintained as an artificial collection by the Archives. Accrual is expected.
The magazine articles feature Getty collections, programs, buildings, etc. Most of the magazine articles are original, although some are photocopies. Entire issues have been retained only when the Getty-related article is the cover story. Note that not all years are represented, nor is the collection comprehensive for any given year. Magazine clippings also have been collected in the chronological, subject, microfilm, and United Kingdom sections, so duplication is to be expected.

Arrangement note

Materials are arranged in chronological order. Annual publications are placed at the beginning of each year, followed by monthly publications. Monthly publications are placed at the beginning of each month, followed by weekly and daily publications. Seasonal publications (Winter, Spring, Summer, Autumn) are placed in the month during which that season begins in the Northern Hemisphere. Publications that bridge months (May/June) or years (Dec 1997/Jan 1998) are placed with the earliest month/year represented by that isuue.
