Abstract: Kenneth V. Redpath was a charter member and secretary of the Los Angeles Driving Club, organized in 1899. The collection consists of photographs, clippings, and records of the Los Angeles Driving Club, programs of Los Angeles horse associations, and personal memorabilia of Kenneth V. Redpath. Of note is correspondence between Redpath and Los Angeles Times publisher Harrison Gray Otis.

Redpath was associated with the Times-Mirror Company. He was a charter member and secretary of the Los Angeles Driving Club, organized in 1899.

Scope and Content

Collection consists of photographs, clippings, and records of the Los Angeles Driving Club. Also includes programs of Los Angeles horse associations and personal memorabilia of Kenneth V. Redpath. Of note is correspondence between Redpath and Los Angeles Times publisher Harrison Gray Otis. Photographs include 225 photographs of members of the Los Angeles Driving Club and their horses, as well as images of trophies, Otis, Redpath, and Los Angeles City Auditor Harris.

[From the printed finding aid] This collection consists of photographs, newspaper clippings and records of the Los Angeles Driving Club; programs of other local horse associations, such as the Los Angeles Horse Show Association; and personal memorabilia of Kenneth V. Redpath, the compilor(?). Mr. Redpath was associated with the Los Angeles Times-Mirror Company, and was at one time secretary of the Los Angeles Driving Club. He was a charter member of the Club, organized in 1899.

Includes Redpath's records of the Los Angeles Riding Club; business cards from the Los Angeles Times, the San Diego Union, and the Morning Sun; correspondence with Mr. Harrison Gray Otis, president of the Times-Mirror Company, concerning the rental of a house in Laurel Canyon by Redpath from Otis. Also, membership card of the Mountaineers' Club of Laurel Canyon.

Scope and Content Note

Includes address given at Dr. W.A. Connoly's birthday party at the Tuesday Noon Luncheon Club (offshoot of the Driving Club). Address gives history of the Driving Club, and includes clippings from newspapers. Also, sample membership cards and club stationery.

Photographs include saddlebred and driving horses, some with carriages or western saddles of the time; 4 photographs of trophy cups; 2 of wagons decorated for President McKinley; and photographs of General Harrison Otis, Kenneth Redpath, and City Auditor Harris. Also, three ribbons.

One mentions the Los Angeles Driving Club. Also, 5 oversize enlargements of photographs in the collection, one of the cup presented by the Driving Club to Mr. William Garland, owner of Sweet Marie, for achievement in the Grand Circuit.
