Biography of Jerry Voorhis
Jerry Livingston Voorhis, the son of Horace Jeremiah "Jerry" Voorhis, was born July 2, 1938 in Pasadena, California and attended
Grinnell College where he received a B.A. in History in 1960. He later attended Northwestern University where he received
a M.A. (1962) and a Ph.D. in History (1968).
Mr. Voorhis taught European and World History Chicago Teachers College North (1962-1964) and Wisconsin State University, Eau
Claire (1965-1967). He spent a year in Germany under a German government scholarship grant studying the University of Bonn
and doing research on his doctoral dissertation. From 1968 until 1981 he taught European, World, and U.S. History at Cal
Poly Pomona. From 1977 - 1984 he worked as a Library systems specialist at the Honnold Library of The Claremont Colleges.
He has been active in the civil rights, peace, environmental and social gospel movements.
Mr. Voorhis is an active member of St. Ambrose Episcopal Church in Claremont, California, where he sings in the choir and
tutors at the St. Ambrose Youth Wellness Center.
