Subseries Scope and Content Summary

This subseries comprises photographic prints, glass and film-based negatives, and some postcards documenting California, Mexico, and Southwestern United States areas from the late 19th through 20th centuries. The bulk of these photographs document Southern California areas, particularly Los Angeles and Orange counties.
Most of the photographic prints in this series are silver gelatin or collodion. There are also two daguerreotypes, an ambrotype, glass slides, and color prints. Photographic print formats include panoramic prints, stereographs, and cabinet cards.

Arrangement

Photographs are primarily arranged by United States or Mexico geographical area and county. Photographs are secondarily arranged by locality. Within localities, files may be further arranged into one of 18 topical groupings, such as education, government and politics, people, and recreation and entertainment. Photographs of individuals associated with a particular locality are filed under the heading "People" and arranged by surname. Personal photographs of Meadows, his family, and his friends are filed in Series 1. Biographical materials.
