Biography

Stanley Albert Wolpert was born on December 23, 1927 in Brooklyn, New York; BA, City College of New York, 1953; AM (1955) and Ph.D (1959), University of Pennsylvania; instructor (1959-60), assistant professor (1960-63), associate professor (1963-66), and in 1967 professor of history, UCLA; also served, beginning in 1968, as department chair; won Distinguished Teaching Award, UCLA, 1975; published books include Aboard the flying swan (1954), Tilak and Gokhale: revolution and reform in the making of modern India (1962), Nine hours to Rama (1962), India (1965), Morley and India, 1906-1910 (1967), The expedition (1968), An error of judgment (1970), A new history of India (1976), Roots of confrontation in South Asia: Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, and the Superpowers (1982), Jinnah of Pakistan: a life (1984), and Nehru: a tryst with destiny (1996).

Scope and Content

Collection consists of galley proofs and a revised typescript with extensive holograph and editorial corrections of Stanley Wolpert's novel Nine hours to Rama. Includes the typescript with holograph corrections of the same novel under its original title, Day of darkness.
