Records of the Vice Chancellor for Administration (V. Wayne Kennedy), including outgoing
correspondence (1982-1992) and subject files (1965-1994). The materials relate to
property acquisition and management, especially Blackhorse Farms, La Jolla Farms, and the
Elliott Field Station; facility construction, including Engineering Building 1, the
Faculty Club, the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, the Magnetic Recording Research
Center, and Thornton Hospital; internal audits; intellectual property and technology
transfer; and, budgets. The bulk of the materials date from 1982 to 1992 and are arranged
in two series: 1) OUTGOING CORRESPONDENCE and 2) SUBJECT FILES.
Background
The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Administration provided the UCSD campus with
business, support, and administrative services that fostered campus growth and helped to
ensure excellence in the campus's teaching, research and public service. Supporting the
administrative roles of the Chancellor and the Vice Chancellor for Business and Finance,
the office's functions included university relations, development, administrative
computing, business contracts, and facilities construction.
