Panel discussion presented by Stanford Arms Control and Disarmament Forum at Stanford University on May 28, 1981.
Moderated by Phil Farley, former Deputy Director, Arms Control Disarmament Agency.
Wolfgang Panofsky, Director of SLAC, Jeremy Stone, Director, Federation of Atomic Scientists, and Tony Webb, anti-nuclear activist, share their views on issues such as rates of technical advances in the arms race, political and psychological perceptions of adversaries' nuclear capabilities, negative byproducts of the arms race, and recurring questions concerning non-proliferation policies, society's willigness to continue financing or otherwise support the arms race, and the incipient creation of nuclear-free zones. A question-and-answer period follows.
