Scope and Content Note
The files consist mostly of Brittin's black and white photographs and negatives documenting Los Angeles culture and the art
scene in the 1950s and 1960s. Some files also contain photographs taken by Brittin's wife, Barbara, and other photographers.
Along with these photographs are related papers, works of art, publications, exhibition posters and ephemera.

Scope and Content Note
The artist files form the bulk of the archive and primarily contain black and white photographs, contact sheets, negatives
and some color photographs and slides of Los Angeles artists, writers and musicians during the 1950s and 1960s. This section
also includes mail art, poetry, collage, assemblage and drawings created by underground Los Angeles artists such as Wallace
Berman, Bob Alexander, John Altoon, George Herms and Brittin himself. Miscellaneous papers such as clippings and exhibition
ephemera, as well as related publications, accompany some of the photographs. For materials related to exhibitions or projects
at Ferus and Semina galleries, see the museum and gallery files in Series I.B.
