The San Francisco Public Library was founded in 1878 after the Rogers Act was enacted by then Governor William Irwin. It accounts
for the entire public library system of the city of San Francisco, CA. There are currently 27 branch libraries. The San Francisco
Public Library obtains many materials from donations.
