Background

Scope and content:

This collection consists of surveys of outdoor sculptures in Santa Clara County. Each survey includes the name of artist, year the sculpture was created, dimensions and materials of the sculpture, where the sculpture is located, and any preservation or conservation needs of the sculpture. Each survey includes a photograph of the sculpture.

Biographical / historical:

In 1994 the San Jose Office of Cultural Affairs conducted a survey of outdoor sculptures in Santa Clara County for preservation and conservation purposes. The Office used Save Outdoor Sculpture! (SOS!) techniques for this survey. The SOS! was created by the National Institute for the Conservation of Cultural Property to promote the conservation and preservation of outdoor sculptures around the nation.

Acquisition information:
This collection was transferred to the Archives by the San Jose Office of Cultural Affairs in 2009.
Processing information:

This collection was processed by Trista Raezer working under NHPRC grant RA-10047-07, the Santa Clara County Archives Project. A fuller account of the grant project is available at the Archives website.

This collection is arranged into one series: Outdoor Sculpture Surveys. Each folder includes the artist's name and the name of the sculpture. The folders are arranged alphabetically by artist.
