Scope and Content Note

This series contains material created and published by Charles Ricketts and Charles H. Shannon prior to the formal creation of the Vale Press (1896-1904). This includes a series of woodcut proof prints for an edition of the George Thornley translation of Daphnis and Chloe.

Partial set of signed and annotated trial proofs (32 of a set of 37) by Charles Ricketts and Charles Shannon for Vale Publications' edition of the George Thornley translation (1657) of Daphnis & Chloe. Includes proofs of plates 1-4, 6-25, 28-33, 36-37.
