Biography
The Comision Femenil de Los Angeles, the Los Angeles Chapter of the
Comision Femenil Mexicana Nacional, was founded in November of 1972. The
goals of the CFLA are to direct its efforts to organize women to assume
leadership positions within the movement and in the community, to
desseminate news and information regarding the Chicana, to promote
programs which help assist and promote solutions to Chicana problems and
problems confronting Chicano families and to explore ways to establish
relationships with other women's organizations and
movements.
Once established, the Comision provided leadership
information and training for many of today's Chicana community leaders.
During its time, the Comision published a newsletter, operated two
bilingual child-development centers, and founded the Chicana Service
Action Center. It also established a scholarship to assist Chicana
students.
