Biographical Note

John "Red" Sweeney was a technical sergeant in the United States Army. He worked as instructor teaching military and combat science at the Ramgarh Training Center in India from 1942 to 1944.
According to Sweeney's obituary published October 23, 2007, Mr. Sweeney was selected "to be a member of an elite group of soldiers instruct the Chinese Army" under the command of General Joseph W. Stilwell.
After his assignment, known as the "Stilwell Mission," Sweeney "founded and served at one time as Commander of the Sentry Post American Legion and the Basha China-Burma-India Veterans Post Association in Worcester," and was a member of related American Legion groups.
Sweeney produced materials after the war such as compiling the monograph, Ramgarh: Now It Can Be Told, and videotapes about "his instructions on the training of the Chinese Army." Additionally, Sweeney spoke Chinese and Hindustani in order to train Chinese and Indian troops as indicated in Ramgarh: Now It Can Be Told.
In 2007, John J. "Red" Sweeney passed away October 20th at the Rose Monahan Hospice Residence.
