Description
Henry Raup Wagner (1862-1957) collected books and made contributions to the history and bibliography of Latin America as well as the American West. The collection contains correspondence, manuscripts, research notes, and printed material including his manuscript, Bibliography of British Economics, 1499-1799.
Background
Wagner was born on September 27, 1862 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; A.B. (1884), LL.B (1886), L.H.D. (1946), Yale University; D.Litt. (1935), Pomona College; LL.D (1949), University of California at Berkeley; admitted to Missouri bar in 1887 and began practicing in Kansas City; became member of the executive committee (1918-20), the vice president (1920-21), American Smelting and Refining Company, New York; began to collect books, and made contributions to the history and bibliography of Latin America and the American West; member, American Antiquarian Society; published works include Sir Francis Drake's Voyage Around The World: Its Aims and Achievements (1926), Spanish Voyages to the Northwest Coast of America in the Sixteenth Century (1929), and The Grabhorn Press: a Catalogue of Imprints in the Collection of Henry R. Wagner (1938); he died on March 28, 1957.
