Scope and Content of Collection
This collection consists of the handwritten personal daily diary of John H. Lick kept during the period January 22, 1856 -
September 12, 1856. Of note is the entry for February 15, 1856, which describes an earthquake of some magnitude that took
place in San Francisco on that day. Many of the other entries give a general description of the type and quality of weather
on a particular day, whether it was sunny and warm, foggy, cloudy or raining. Some of the entries mention day trips that
the author made to Santa Clara or San Jose and on certain of these days he notes that he went fishing and what he caught.
Many pages of the diary contain no entries.
