Abstract: Henry Fitzgerald Heard (October 6, 1889-August 14, 1971) was interested in parapsychology, Vedanta, philosophy, and religion.
He took honors in history at Cambridge, 1911, where he also did his postgraduate work in philosophy of religions. He lectured
at Oxford University and on the radio and wrote
Ascent of Humanity. He later founded Trabuco College as a center for spiritual studies. As Gerald Heard, he wrote philosophical works such as
The Emergence of Man and
The Creed of Christ. Under the name H.F. Heard, he wrote mysteries. The collection consists of Heard's manuscripts of published and unpublished
books, correspondence, tape recordings of Heard's lectures, lecture notes, articles, books from Heard's library, photographs,
and ephemera. It also includes manuscripts by others as well as an oil painting of Heard by Aldous Huxley (1933).

Biography/History
Born Henry Fitzgerald Heard on October 6, 1889 in London, England; took honors in history at Cambridge, 1911, where he did
postgraduate work in philosophy of religions from 1911-1912; lecturer at Oxford University; lectured on the radio 1929-1971;
wrote
Ascent of Humanity; came to the United States in 1937 with Aldous Huxley; was briefly chairman of the Department of Historical Anthropology
at Duke; moved to California, working with the Society of Friends and the Pacific Coast Institute of International Affairs;
directed Conference of the Spiritual Life, La Verne College, 1941; founded Trabuco College as a center for spiritual studies;
as "Gerald Heard," wrote philosophical works such as
The Emergence of Man and
The Creed of Christ; wrote mysteries under the name "H.F. Heard;" died August 14, 1971 in Santa Monica, California.

Collection consists of Heard's manuscripts of published and unpublished books, correspondence, sixteen boxes of tape recordings
of Heard's lectures, lecture notes, articles, books from Heard's library, photographs, and ephemera related to Heard's interests
in parapsychology, Vedanta, philosophy, and religion. Includes manuscripts by others as well as an oil painting of Heard by
Aldous Huxley (1933).
