Biographical / historical:

The collection contains materials relating to William D. and Mary Ann Ingram, Scottish immigrants who settled in Santa Barbara.

Mary Ann Miller Irvine (Ingram) was born on March 9, 1883, to James Irvine, a paper mill worker, and Mary Ann Irvine, in the Parish of Dyce, County of Aberdeen, Scotland. According to his naturalization certificate, William D. Ingram also was born in Scotland, ca. 1885, and emigrated to the U.S. sometime before 1909.

Real estate documents indicate William and Mary were married and had purchased property on Voluntario Street, in Santa Barbara, by 1915. The 1922 Santa Barbara City Directory also lists William D. (carpenter) and Mary Ingram at 310 S. Voluntario. They still are listed there as late as the 1948 Santa Barbara City Directory.
