This collection includes the certificate of apprenticeship fro the Canadian National Railways, Grand Trunk Railway System Certificate of apprenticeship No. 2808 issued by the Canadian National Railways / Grand Trunk Railway System to John A. Tarbutt, November 12, 1945, for his five years of service (completed September 20, 1945) as a machinist at the Fort Rouge Motive Power Shops, as well as newspaper clippings for the first aid awards for the Fort Rouge Motive Power Shops.

This collection includes the certificate of apprenticeship fro the Canadian National Railways, Grand Trunk Railway System Certificate of apprenticeship No. 2808 issued by the Canadian National Railways / Grand Trunk Railway System to John A. Tarbutt, November 12, 1945, for his five years of service (completed September 20, 1945) as a machinist at the Fort Rouge Motive Power Shops, as well as newspaper clippings for the first aid awards for the Fort Rouge Motive Power Shops.

Biographical / historical:

John Arthur Tarbutt was born March 15, 1922, in Winnipeg, Canada. Tarbutt worked for the Canadian National Railways for 14 years and spent three years in the Canadian Navy during World War II. In 1957, he moved to Sacramento, Caifornia, with his wife, Annabell Edna [Grismer] and two daughters. John and Annabelle married in 1942. In 1959, Tarbutt began to work as an optician and worked for Nicolaus Optical from 1962-1985.

Tarbutt enjoyed volunteering with the American Red Cross, the Boy Scouts of America, and was a docent at the California State Railroad Museum.

Passing away on February 11, 2005, Tarbutt is buried at the Mount Vernon Memorial Park, Fair Oaks, California.
