The Department of Urban Studies and
Planning Records consist of the records of the department, once called the Center for
Urban Studies. Items in the collection include committee notes, brochures, board meeting
minutes, correspondence, and program planning materials for "Destination 90,"
a dynamic city planning program for the San Fernando Valley area undertaken in the late
The College of Social and Behavioral Sciences began at San Fernando Valley State College
as the School of Letters and Science. In 1972, when California State University,
Northridge was established, the School of Letters and Science was split into three
different schools, with the Anthropology, Geography, History, Political Science,
Psychology and Sociology majors incorporated into the new School of Social and
Behavioral Sciences. The school was renamed the College of Social and Behavioral
Sciences sometime in the 1990s.
