Biographical/Historical note
Robert Ingle Hoyt was born on March 21, 1913 in Connecticut. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts from Yale in 1936. In 1941,
Hoyt graduated from Cornell University with his Masters degree in Architecture. Following school, Hoyt was employed in multiple
architectural firms in New York. In 1947, he opened his own independent firm in Santa Barbara, California. Hoyt’s body of
work includes commercial buildings, schools, a museum, parking facilities and residences. Robert Ingle Hoyt died on July 28,
1985.
Scope and Content note
The Robert Ingle Hoyt papers span 68 linear feet and date from circa 1941 to circa 1980. The collection is primarily composed
of architectural drawings and reprographic copies, but also includes black-and-white photographs, negatives, correspondence,
newspaper and magazine clippings, presentation boards, master plans, specifications, and handwritten notes regarding projects.
