Biography

Herbert B. Leonard was born in New York City on Oct. 8, 1922. He began his career in the entertainment industry working for Columbia pictures in 1940, served in World War II as a naval aviator from 1941-46, and resumed his career in the late 1940's as a production manager for Sam Katzman Productions. Leonard left Sam Katzman Productions to form Herbert B. Leonard Productions in 1954,subsequently producing the popular children's television series The Adventures of Rin Tin Tin. Over the next 20 years, Leonard formed multiple production companies including Norbert Productions, Inc. with Norman Blackburn, Lancer Productions, Wilbert Productions, Inc. with Cinefilm Inc., Shelle Processions, Inc., and Leonard Films, Inc. Throughout his career he produced hundreds of television and motion picture projects including such television series as Circus Boy, Tales of Bengal Lancers , Rescue 8, Naked City and Route 66 and the motion picture Popi for United Artists. Leonard died on October 14 2006 of cancer.
