Historical Note

The Gay Freedom Day Parade and Fair was the name of San Francisco's annual gay pride parade (by the early 1980s the event was referred to as Lesbian/Gay Freedom Day). In 1977 parade and festival attendance burgeoned in response to national anti-LGBT initiatives supported by Anita Bryant and others.
