The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be "used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research." If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of "fair use," that user may be liable for copyright infringement. This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgement, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law.

Soroptimist International was founded on December 4, 1924, as Soroptimist International of San Jose. The club was renamed to Soroptimist International of Silicon Valley after merging with two other local clubs. It serves as a voluntary service organization committed to improving the lives of women and girls.
The records comprise membership rosters (1948-1987), by-laws (pre-1948 thru 1986), programs of activities (1939-1942), Installation Dinner programs (1957-1967), newsletters (1959-1971 broken run), minutes (1925-1963), maps showing the boundaries of the San Jose club, scrapbooks (1926-1971), photograph albums, and other assorted records of the Soroptimist Club of San Jose, also known as Soroptimist International of San Jose. Included in the photographs is the 1939 Soroptimist Club album of member portraits.
