Description
Papers document the activities of the Glee Club, 1964-1982, and
MacKinnon's musical compositions, 1948-1982. Included are musical scores, script, and
audio tapes of his musical comedy "Paradise Square"; scores of his other compositions;
rules, guides, and instructions for the Glee Club; and yearly reports on the Glee Club,
which include photographs.
Background
Robert MacKinnon received his a.b. in music from the University of Kansas and his a.m.
from Yale. He first came to Stanford in 1961 as a lecturer in voice. In 1963 he was
appointed director of the Glee Club, which he held until his retirement in 1982. Under
his direction the glee club grew from seven voices to 60 voices accompanied by a
2l-piece orchestra. He was also a composer and arranger.
