    Scope and Content of Collection

Dorman Commons, an oil company executive and self-identified liberal Democrat, was a strong supporter of adequate state support for public education and supported both sex education and the teaching of evolution in the schools. He supported Wilson Riles against Conservative Max Rafferty in the 1970 campaign for California State Superintendent of Public Instruction. Materials on these two individuals and their campaigns are also included in the collection.
