William J. Roberts was born in a covered wagon June 1, 1909 in Twin Falls, Idaho. He is the son of crop-sharing parents who
came as pioneers from the state of Kansas. At seventeen years of age he and his older brother felt the call of the Lord and
came to Southern California to study at the Southern California Bible School now known as Vanguard University.
His career in radio is outlined below:
1935: Began his radio ministry – “Gospel and Song”, KFWB Hollywood California.
1945: Initiated the Dr. Roberts and family broadcast, “Family Bible Hour,” KGER, Long Beach, California.
1960: Joined with “Bible Fellowship Hour,” networked in U. S. and Canada. Dr. Roberts and Celia Webb (wife of Dr. T. Myron
Webb)
1965 to 2006: President of “World Scope Ministries,” KWRM, KWRN, Inland Empire, So. California, a non-profit organization
for world-wide missionary activity.

The Roberts Collection was processed by Claire Balch, student worker (2007) and Pam Crenshaw. The donation was received in
October of 2006 and inventory of the donation was completed May 29, 2007.
When the donation was first received the Archives was not sure how to proceed with the donation. After discussion with Dr.
Russell Spittler, Interim Provost, it was decided to treat the donation as a collection and a comprehensive inventory took
place.

Dr. William J. Roberts (1952-2004) began his radio ministry at KFWB, Hollywood, California in 1935. In 1945 he initiated
the Dr. Roberts and family broadcast, “Family Bible Hour,” broadcast by KGER, Long Beach, California. In 1960 Dr. Roberts
joined the “Bible Fellowship Hour” broadcast in the U. S. and Canada. His program “World Scope Ministries” began in 1965
and was broadcast via KWRM and KWRN in the Inland Empire of So. California. This collection represents over 52 years of broadcasts,
music and miscellaneous books. It includes reel to reel tapes of broadcasts form 1952 to 2004 including interviews, music,
messages and Bible teaching. A collection of 33 rpm records used on the broadcast, as well as cassettes, videotapes and books
are included in the collection. Broadcast reels include speakers and performers Ralph Carmichael, Elvis Presley, Kathryn
Kuhlman, Johnny Cash, David Wong of Asian Outreach, Bob Bowman of Far East Broadcasting, David du Plessis, George Otis, Paul
Kaufman and Bob Pierce of World Vision as well as the Ordination of Franklin Graham.
